Maud Parker Illingworth — Notable Librarian
From about 1920 until her death, on July 10, 1940, Hay Memorial Library was guided by a most accomplished librarian. Maud Parker Illingworth was both librarian and historian during her tenure. In her obituary, the Watertown Daily Times points out, “Through her connection with the library, she was a great assisstance to the state historian and it was largely through her efforts that all of the historical markers in the town of Houndsfield — about 20 — were erected. While the state furnished the markers, Mrs. Illingworth prepared the data for all of them.”
